Flowers and plants: IELTS Speaking Part 1 questions
Last updated 21 July 2026
In short
Practice questions
The examiner usually opens with something like: "Do you like having plants or flowers in your home?"
Do you or your family grow anything?
Do people often give flowers as gifts where you live?
Would you like to have a garden?
Do flowers make a difference to how a place feels?
How to answer Part 1 questions
The goal is a natural, extended answer — never one word, never a speech.
- Part 1 lasts 4–5 minutes and covers familiar topics about you and your life.
- Answer in 2–3 sentences: respond directly, then add a reason, detail, or example.
- Don't give one-word answers, but don't over-talk — the examiner has a set of questions to get through.
- Speak naturally about your real life; there are no 'right' answers, only clearer and less clear ones.
