The waggle dance
For centuries, beekeepers noticed that a honeybee returning to the hive would sometimes move in a strange, repeated pattern across the honeycomb. It was the Austrian scientist Karl von Frisch who first worked out what these movements meant: the bee was passing on directions to food. In the so-called waggle dance, the bee runs in a straight line while shaking its body, then circles back and repeats the run. The angle of the run, measured against the vertical, tells the other bees which direction to fly in relation to the sun. The length of the run tells them how far they need to travel: the longer the waggle, the more distant the flowers. Von Frisch's work earned him a share of the Nobel Prize in 1973.

Which IELTS papers can I take a mock test for?
All four: Speaking, Listening, Reading and Writing. Reading and Writing come in both the Academic and the General Training module. Each paper can be sat whole or one part at a time.
How long is each mock test?
The same as the real paper: about 14 minutes for Speaking, 35 minutes for Listening including the final check, 60 minutes for Reading and 60 minutes for Writing. A single-part drill is shorter: one Listening recording is about 8 minutes, one Reading passage 20 minutes, Writing Task 1 20 minutes and Task 2 40 minutes.
How much does a mock test cost?
