What the examiner looks for
- It opens with a first name and closes with a phrase such as Best wishes.
- Contractions and everyday phrases are right here, and a formal tone is marked down.
- The letter is at least 150 words and covers all three bullet points. One that is left out lowers Task Achievement.
Informal letter questions to practise

A friend who lives in another country is coming to visit your town for the first time next month.
Write a letter to your friend. In your letter
say how you feel about the visit
suggest some places you could visit together
explain how to get from the airport to your home
