How to use the Task 2 Checker

What the four criteria actually measure
Examiners score Task 2 on four equally weighted criteria. Task Response asks whether you answered every part of the question with a clear position and developed ideas — the single most common Band 6 ceiling is a position that appears only in the conclusion. Coherence & Cohesion covers paragraph logic and linking; overusing connectors (“Moreover… Furthermore… In addition…”) reads as mechanical and caps you as surely as underusing them.
Lexical Resource rewards precision, not rarity: “a pressing issue” beats a misused “conundrum” every time. Grammatical Range & Accuracy wants a mix of complex structures used correctly — one accurate conditional outscores three broken ones. The checker quotes your own sentences under each criterion so you can see exactly which habit is holding which score down.
How to actually go up a band
Band improvement in writing is unglamorous: identify your two most frequent errors, drill them, and re-test. That is why the report includes an “upgraded sample” — your own words rewritten one band higher. Comparing the two versions shows you the specific gap (usually idea development and collocation, not fancy vocabulary) far better than a generic model essay by someone else ever could.

How accurate is the band score estimate?
The checker is anchored to the public IELTS band descriptors and deliberately calibrated not to flatter — most intermediate essays genuinely sit at Band 5.5–6.5. Treat the estimate as a practice reference: excellent for tracking progress and spotting weaknesses, but it is not an official score, and no tool can promise what a human examiner will award on test day.
Should I include the essay question?
Yes, whenever you can. Task Response — a full quarter of your mark — is about how well you answer the specific question asked. Without the prompt, the checker has to infer the task and will tell you it did, but it can't catch the classic killer: answering a slightly different question than the one set.
Does it work for both Academic and General Training?
Yes. Task 2 essays follow the same format and the same band descriptors in both modules — General Training questions are usually a little more everyday in topic, but scoring works identically.
How many essays can I check for free?
