    Frequently asked questions

    Are these official IELTS tests?
No. They are original tests written for SpeakMetry in the format of the real paper: the same parts, the same question types and the same printed instructions. SpeakMetry is not affiliated with the IELTS Partners.
Can I take a Writing test for free?
Every task here is free to read. A free account can sit one full test and receives the Writing band, each task's band and the examiner's verdict. The band for each criterion, the corrections and the sample answers come with a Premium Pass.
    Who marks the writing?
An AI examiner marks each task on the four public criteria: Task Achievement or Task Response, Coherence and Cohesion, Lexical Resource, and Grammatical Range and Accuracy. The band is a practice estimate, not an official result.
Does Task 2 count for more than Task 1?
Yes. Task 2 carries twice the weight of Task 1 in the Writing band, which is why the paper recommends forty minutes for it and twenty for Task 1.
