How to use the Part 1 Questions

What Part 1 is actually testing
Part 1 is a warm-up with a purpose: 4–5 minutes of familiar-topic questions that let the examiner calibrate your baseline fluency and hear you handle present, past, and simple hypothetical forms (“Do you…?”, “Did you use to…?”, “Would you rather…?”). The generator sequences questions in that same escalation so your practice mirrors the real rhythm — and the “what the examiner listens for” notes tell you which form each question is fishing for.
Practising without memorizing
The goal of question practice isn't to prepare answers — it's to build the reflex of extending naturally. A useful drill: answer the same question three times with a different reason each time. It forces flexible language instead of a fixed script, and it's exactly the flexibility that separates a 6.5 from a 7 when the examiner asks the question you didn't prepare.

Are these real past exam questions?
They're original questions generated to match the authentic Part 1 register and difficulty — the same familiar topics, simple wording, and personal angle. IELTS rotates its question banks constantly, so training the skill of answering fresh questions is worth more than memorizing any list of past ones.
Which topics come up most in Part 1?
The perennials: home and hometown, work or study, daily routine, food, weather, hobbies, transport, friends, and technology in daily life. Every candidate gets home/work/study territory early. Generate sets across several of these rather than deep-diving one.
How should I use the sample answer?
As a calibration reference, not a script. Answer the question yourself first, then compare: is the sample longer or shorter than yours? Where did it add the reason or detail you skipped? Then apply that pattern to the next question — the pattern transfers; the sentences don't.
