What this tool does

Polish is a different job from improvement
Improvement raises the level of the language; polish removes friction from language that's already at level. Concretely: polish fixes a paragraph that ends abruptly, two sentences with identical rhythm, a “However” that should be a “But”, a formal document with one chatty sentence. It won't upgrade your vocabulary — if the upgrade list you want is substantive, you want the Text Improver, one tool over.

When should I use the polisher versus the improver?
Improver: your text is correct but reads flat or imprecise. Polisher: your text is good and needs a final smoothing before it ships. In a full pipeline: correct → improve → polish, though most texts need only one of the three.
What does the tone option change?
It sets the target register the polish unifies toward. “Keep current tone” smooths inconsistencies within your own register; “formal”, “friendly”, or “academic” nudges stray sentences toward that register — nudges, not rewrites; a mismatched document needs revision, not polish.
Is it useful for IELTS writing practice?
Sparingly. The exam has no polish pass, so most practice should be raw and timed. Where it shines is studying the delta: seeing which transitions the polisher smooths in your essays teaches you the frictions your writing habitually produces.
Why is the change list so short?
Because minimal intervention is the specification. Trivia (doubled spaces, typography) is fixed silently; the list carries only judgment calls you might want to veto. A short list on decent text means the tool is working, not slacking.
